Vintage wedding: an original celebration

Organizing a themed wedding requires study, creativity and research of detail. The vintage wedding is full of magic: it represents the distinctive features of an era, interpreting them with a touch of modernity and poetry. This type of wedding is perfect for couples who want to give a special touch to their celebration. Choosing a style means using it in everything, from the look of the bride and groom to the cutting of the cake. Here are our tips!

Choose the period and style of the wedding

First of all, it’s important to decide the historical period that best represents the bride and groom. Everything must reflect the charm of that time. The ‘30s, ‘50s or why not the ‘90s? Set the fantasy free!

If you choose the ‘30s wedding style you can develop the Charleston style: soft colours and shapes and glamorous atmosphere. On the contrary, the ‘50s wedding style is dominated by rock, vinyl and bright colours with short dresses, polka dots and joy. But you can also choose between the ’70s and ’80s with hippy style or sequins for disco nights.

Vintage wedding dress, the perfect style

The central element of a vintage ceremony is the bride wedding dress that, although modern, has to remember the fashion of the era to which it refers. Some people are lucky enough to buy a really vintage dress, in some shop that keeps original clothes. But there are future brides that prefer to opt for recent models with a strong and ancient appeal.

There are two types of vintage dresses: on the one hand the “romantic” wedding dress and on the other the “strong” wedding dress.

There are two types of vintage dresses: on the one hand the “romantic” wedding dress and on the other the “strong” wedding dress.

The romantic model is characterized by sinuous and soft shapes, with lace and ruffles. The silhouette of this dress reminds to mermaid or princess. It is often accompanied by puff veils or long veils.

The “strong” vintage wedding dress, on the other hand, has more geometric shapes, minimal lines and generally the “longuette” skirt. It is often accompanied by accessories such as a large hat, that makes it even more special.

Dress code and vintage participations

The look of bridesmaids and pagers and the dress code of the guests must be in line with the vintage style chosen. For the guests, a nice idea is to offer them a theme detail on their arrival at the reception. For example, if you had chosen the 1930s vintage wedding, a Charleston styled feather band for the female guests is perfect.

Whatever the style, it is important to communicate it immediately to the guests. To remember the ’30s, you can create participation with retro fonts and palette of colours ivory, beige and pink. From the ’50s onwards, you can use a colourful graphic.

A retro touch for the flower design

For marriage with an “ancient character”, everything has to recreate the setting of that time. The floral design has also great importance. White or coloured roses and pearls are perfect for the early 20th century decorations.

But if you are inspired by a more recent period, focus on bright tones and classic polka dots of the ’50s. Take care about the use of colours and, if is it possible, choose the seasonal flowers.

Themed music and entertainment

Another important aspect is the entertainment that must reflect the vintage soul of marriage. Choosing the music of those years is not enough.
It is very important to recreate corner with furniture of the period: a booth for photos, a cart of popcorn and why not, if the budget allows it, a little Luna Park. Create a real vintage setting. Bet on “confetti” or sweet tables decorated with typewriters, vintage suitcases and everything that recalls that time.
